First Made In India Isuzu D-Max Pickup Rolls Out In SriCity


Japanese automobile giant, Isuzu Motors has launched their first state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at SriCity, Andhra Pradesh. The plant was inaugurated by the honourable C.M.  of the state, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu. 

India's first Adventure Utility Vehicle, the 'Isuzu D-MAX V-CROSS', was also rolled out by the honorable Chief Minister and Mr. Masanori Katayama, President of Isuzu Motors Japan, to commence the production of the new manufacturing unit. 

Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, the Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Kazushi Okawa, Executive Vice President, and other dignitaries of the government of Andhra Pradesh were also present at the roll out.

The newly developed plant at Sri City is spread over an area of 107 acres with a capacity of manufacturing nearly 50,000 units which can be scaled up to 120,000 in the future. With Isuzu already owning plants in Japan, Thailand and U.S.A., this new plant surely adds to their strength  in the global manufacturing units. 

The new Isuzu D-MAX pickups will be manufactured with 70%  localization at the start which will be increased in the near future. Isuzu is also considering exports of products developed in this plant to foreign market.


Mr. Masanori Katayama, who was available at the inauguration told the press,
“We are very happy to start our local manufacturing operations in India. India is one of the biggest automobile markets and also one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India is a key part of Isuzu Motors’ global growth strategy. This new plant in India will not only cater to the requirements of the growing Indian market, but in future it will also serve as a key manufacturing hub for ISUZU’s global operations.”

Mr. Hiroyasu Miura, Chairman of ISUZU Motors India Pvt. Ltd., commenting on the occasion said,
“The globally proven ISUZU D-MAX pickups will be manufactured at this plant under high quality standards in line with ISUZU’s well acclaimed ‘Isuzu Manufacturing Management’ practices. We have found Indian suppliers to be capable of meeting Isuzu’s global quality standards and we will follow a high localization strategy for the manufacturing operations in India. Isuzu is in India for last 4 years studying the Indian market, understanding the Indian customer’s requirements and establishing the sales and service network. The inauguration of our manufacturing plant at SriCity is a major milestone in this journey and we look forward to an exciting future in India”.

Isuzu Motors has started the manufacturing plant after tying up 120 suppliers, for providing auto components for making vehicles in India. A few key suppliers have also signed an MoU with the govt. of A.P. for setting up manufacturing plants in the region. Isuzu Motors India will be manufacturing the D-MAX pickups. The vehicle will be available in a large number of models and variants to carter the needs of the customers.


The D-MAX V-Cross (4x4) is India's first adventure utility vehicle. A globally proven off-roader with a capable 4WD, the V-Cross is also a five seat urban vehicle. This is the first-in-the-segment product that for the first time meet the expectations of the adventure seekers in the country.

The D-MAX Crew Cab, a 4 door pickup with a cargo deck offers multi-utility capabilities for the business owners who have to carry crew material with them. The D-MAX Single cab and D-MAX Cab Chassis variant addresses the needs of India's modern business and commercial vehicle owners. Bookings for D-MAX will soon start followed by deliveries at ISUZU dealerships all over India.
