Honda showcases 2014 Activa 125 at the Auto Expo - Specs Released




Honda has given a little surprise to all the Activa fans in India by launching the more powerful 2014 Honda Activa 125 with many dazzling features. The previous Activa has 109cc engine where as the new Activa 125, as its name suggests, is powered by 124.9cc engine which produces 8.6bhp (up from 8bhp) and 10.12Nm of torque ( old Activa produces 8.74Nm of torque). Which means more power and pick-up for the new Activa 125.



On the dimensions front the new Activa 125, which measures 1814mm x 704 mm x 1151mm (length x breadth x height), is 54mm longer, 6mm less wide and 4mm taller than the old Activa.  Also according to the specs released the wheelbase of new Activa 125 is 1260mm which is 22mm longer than the old Activa.

Cosmetic features include new crowned shaped headlights with chrome finish at the centre, new analog-digital speedo console, large tail-lamp with integrated clear lens side indicator, stylish footrest and extensive pillion grab handle. Advanced features include combi-brake system, optional front disc brake, tubeless tyres and digital meter. The new Activa 125 has stronger metal body , viscous air filter and MF battery.

The New 2014 Activa 125 will be available from Q1 FY 2015 which means from April 2014

Whats missing in the new design is provision of outside fuel lid, which means every time at the petrol pump you will have get up and open up your seat to fill in petrol. The design overall remains the same with no drastic changes in the layout. The seat design is pretty much the same and the overall look is quite simple and plain primarily targeted at the mass commuter segment.

During the launch at Auto Expo Mr. Takanobu Ito (President, CEO & Representative Director, Honda Motor Company, Japan) announced, “HMSI sales volumes have already reached 2nd position for Honda’s two wheeler business worldwide. We believe India may soon be top market for Honda. Today I am happy to announce Honda will reach closer to customers with its new 4th plant in Gujarat.  We will invest an additional Rs. 1,100 crore for creating new 1.2 million units annual capacity.”

 Mr. Keita Muramatsu (President & CEO – Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd.) said,

Since 2011, HMSI has grown from 1 to 3 plants in India. With existing three plants covering North and South India, Honda is planning to reach closer to vast market in West which contributes over 25% to HMSI business. Honda has announced its new Fourth plant in the Ahmedabad district of Gujarat. The fourth plant is scheduled to become operational in 2015 with an initial annual production capacity of 1.2 million units.
This capacity expansion plan will increase HMSI’s total annual production capacity to 5.8 million units, including 1.6 million units at first plant (Haryana), 1.2 million units at second plant (Rajasthan) and 1.8 million units at third plant (Karnataka).
