Under project Sakhi Hero presents 50 new scooters to Gurugram Women Police

Gurugram, 18th March 2017: Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, today presented 50 new Hero scooters to women police officers of Gurugram Police. The initiative is part of ‘Project Sakhi’, which is aimed at the safety and security of women across the district and state. Equipped with sirens, traffic lights and PA systems, the Hero scooters will be used by the women police force for patrolling.

Mr. Vijay Sethi, Head – CSR & CIO, Hero MotoCorp, handed over the scooters to Mr. Sandeep Khirwar, IPS Commissioner of Police, Gurugram at a ceremony in Gurugram today. The ceremony was followed by the flag-off of the ‘Citizen Safety Bike Rally’, in which over 100 riders participated, including the 50 women police officers on their new Hero scooters. The rally passed through several key areas of the city, highlighting the messages of Road and Women Safety.

Speaking about the event Mr. Vijay Sethi, CIO & Head CSR, Hero MotoCorp said, 
"As the market leader and a responsible corporate citizen, Hero MotoCorp is committed to bringing improvements in our society through various initiatives. Two key areas of focus for Hero have been promoting Road Safety and women empowerment. We have a variety of programs that are running at national and regional levels and some of them are in association with the local police departments. We already have a strong partnership with the Haryana Police, through various initiatives and I'm confident that this new initiative will allow our joint efforts to bring about effective changes." 

On International Women’s Day recently, Hero MotoCorp partnered with Uttarakhand Police and handed over 24 two-wheelers for their all-women first responder system, Cheeta.

Under the aegis of its CSR initiative, Ride Safe India, Hero conducts various nationwide programs to promote road safety. Another key focus area for Hero MotoCorp is women empowerment and it is actively involved in supporting various initiatives related to women empowerment like Hamari Pari and Educate to Empower (E2).

Hero has also adopted Traffic Parks at Gurugram, Delhi, Rourkela, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Nagpur which are equipped with Riding Simulators and other state of the art facilities, where Road Safety awareness programs are conducted regularly for school/college students and other institutions along with local Traffic Police.

In association with Haryana Police, Hero runs a Student Police Cadets (SPC) program, which has been a resounding success since its inception. Students from 50 schools in Gurugram are enrolled in multiple activities to inculcate respect for law and community skills, and instill social values, while providing participants with physical fitness training.

Hero has introduced a Mobile Safety Van, which sensitizes students across the country and also organised exclusive Ride Safe Programs on a regular basis for many leading corporate across India to enhance safety of their two-wheeler users.
